In 2009, a brand new business model emerged in the online shopping sphere. ShoeDazzle was founded and emerged as the pioneer in subscription-based e-commerce. The company was led by proven serial entrepreneur, Brian Lee, who partnered with Kim Kardashian, to establish the first online monthly shoe subscription. This effort was a brand new concept of e-commerce and with its success led to many other subscription-based ecommerce startups.
Having been infused with over $20M in venture capital, ShoeDazzle needed to quickly scale the business. This meant needing to hire quality team members and quickly. The Company didn’t have internal recruiting nor did they want to use a variety of agencies that only sent in resumes. The executive team needed someone to own, drive and manage the recruitment process.
This is where StartupTAP came in as their Recruiting Partner.
We quickly immersed ourselves in the company and met with the senior executive team and every hiring manager to get the list of needed positions. We gathered position requirements, drafted all position specs and then we were off to the races. Our team worked on-site and ran the entire end-to-end process from initial conversation with candidates through offer process and reference calls.
We worked closely with the hiring managers and execs to create position specs, defined the hiring process, and quickly recruited across the entire company. We created the narrative to the company, including its position in the marketplace.
We were a part of the team at ShoeDazzle. We inserted ourselves into the company and were in the trenches with the entire team. This allowed for close collaboration and alignment on the recruitment process with all hiring managers and business leaders. We owned recruitment; creating a cohesive hiring brand and candidate experience.
We worked with blazing speed and tenacity. Building a company is a 24/7/365 task and we were up for the challenge. We were there with the teams – engineering, marketing, product, finance. We lived and breathed the brand and during those early days, we tackled every recruitment task needed. Nothing was too big or small. From outbound recruitment to having eyes on all applicants, scheduling and getting water for candidates interviewing…we did it all.
ShoeDazzle grew from 40 employees to 200+ employees and moved to a larger office before being acquired by JustFab 4 years later. The company needed to hire quality talent quickly and we did what it took to drive the results.
With our hands-on approach and being in the trenches, we got the candidate flow and the innovative pioneer in subscription-based commerce was able to scale. Securing the right Product Management, Marketing, Customer Service talent allowed for ShoeDazzle to keep up with market demand and grow.
Over the course of the engagement, we accomplished:
100+ new hires
45+ new hires in the first year
across the company including several critical senior level executive positions in client services, merchandising, operations and logistics, as well as finance and accounting.
“StartupTAP has been invaluable in scaling the business at a critical juncture in our growth cycle at my last two companies. They have a keen sense in knowing not only what technical skills were required but also what would be a good cultural fit.
Daniel and his team seamlessly integrate in to the business and they are straightforward, of high integrity and a great business partner. StartupTAP is an ideal solution for companies too early or without an in-house recruiting arm. They are the ‘go-to’ resource for early stage growth companies.”"
